 NYC Q & A   Question

Ask a Native...

Is It Easy To Get Around
on the NYC Subway?

Question

Dear Native New Yorker,

I'm going to tell you right now I get lost all the time driving around Charlotte, and I was born there and I can't do a thing with a map. Is it easy to get around on the NYC Subway? Me and my friends are coming for vacation and we can't afford cabs or tour buses. What do you think?

Nell -- Charlotte, NC

Answer

I personally believe that the easiest, and yes the least expensive way to get around New York City is by Subway. Its much faster then traveling above ground and at $2.25 a ride, its a bargain considering that you can travel for miles and get free transfers between subway lines without paying another fare.

Take a look at the handy New York City Subway Guide Riding the NYC Subway Made Easy written by one of our resident Natives. Its chock full of great information such as how to read a subway map, where to find important information when you arrive at a subway station and much more.

The New York City Transit Authority has also made it even easier for the novice to get around the city with their online Trip Planner. It allows you to type in your staring point and your destination and the system will show you what subway line to take to get to where you want to go. Its easy and free. You can't get much better then that.

If you read our subway guide and use New York City Transit's Trip Planner, you'll be getting around New York City with ease.

Enjoy your visit,

Lainey
